Zsolt Pinke obtained his PhD first in history and then in environmental sciences. He studies the long-term relationships between environmental and social structures. He regularly publishes on wetlands and the consequences of water regulation in the 19th and 20th centuries. He is currently a Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Physical Geography, Eötvös Loránd University. In 2020 he was awarded a Marie Curie Fellowship at the Department of Agroecology, Aarhus University.
