Katalin Szende is Professor of Medieval Studies at the Central European University, Vienna and Budapest. Her research concentrates on medieval towns in the Carpathian Basin and Central Europe, regarding society, literacy, language use, everyday life, and topography. She is board member of the International Commission for the History of Towns and the European Association for Urban History. She is founding member and the current president of the Medieval Central Europe Research Network (MECERN).
