Erika Lévai Kerekes is the local lead participant of our project. For a decade, she served as headteacher of Magiszter Primary School, in which children from the bilingual Roma neighbourhood study. She was headteacher of a school attached to a different Roma neighbourhood before, in Büd, the neighbourhood where Hungarian-monolingual Roma live. Both in terms of pedagogical implementation and institutional engagement, she was the main supporter of the translanguaging project implemented in Tiszavasvári (2016—2022), on which the multi-authored volume Translanguaging for Equal Opportunities: Speaking Romani at School (eds. Heltai, I.J. and Tarsoly, E. 2023; Berlin: De Gruyter) is based. She has contributed to countless conferences, professional training courses, and academic chapters and papers on her experience as a teacher and community organiser in Tiszavasvári. She has been a member of our current linguistic citizenship project from the application stage, and a member of Duj Dzséne – Two Together’s editorial team from the outset.
