Kutatási tevékenység, profil rövid leírása:
Angela Taraborelli szavaival élve a kozmopolitanizmus morális, politikai-jogi és kulturális jelenség (Contemporary Cosmopolitanism, 2015), amelyek közül projektünk az etikai és a kulturális vetülettel foglalkozik. A világkép eredete a klasszikus filozófiára vezethető vissza: mint ahogy számos kritikus megjegyzi, történetileg a cinikus és a sztoikus filozófusok gondolkodása tekinthető elsőként kozmopolitának (mint például Szinópei Diogenész, Kitioni Zénón), majd a középkorban nyert keresztény színezetet a jelenség. A mai napig Immanuel Kant az egyik legmeghatározóbb kozmopolita gondolkodó, akinek hatására a világkép szekuláris, politikai-jogi vetületei váltak dominánssá a felvilágosodás korában. A kortárs megközelítések e hagyományra építve, de azt több ponton megkérdőjelezve elsősorban azt kutatják, hogy miként illeszthető be újra a vallás és a hit a kozmopolita világképbe (pl. Susan Stanford Friedman), illetve hogyan reprezentálhatók a periférián lévő országok és népcsoportok, például a menekültek tapasztalatai (Anthony Appiah, Homi Bhabha). Meggyőződésünk, hogy ezekhez a kutatásokhoz projektünk több ponton is hozzájárul, hiszen célunk a földrajzi és társadalmi értelemben vett perifériák vizsgálata: a projekt fókusza nemcsak a posztkoloniális irodalom, amely eleve ezt a tapasztalatot jeleníti meg, hanem Kelet-Közép-Európa mint kulturális „periféria” is. Ez utóbbi kérdést a magyar és angol nyelvű irodalomban egyaránt vizsgáljuk, bízva abban, hogy a kutatás hiánypótló publikációkat fog eredményezni.

Our project explores the ethical and cultural dimensions of cosmopolitanism in a translocal theoretical framework. Building on the concept of the periphery in the geographical and social sense of the term, we investigate the portrayal of urban space in postcolonial literature, exile fiction, and the notion of East-Central Europe as a cultural and artistic margin.
