Call for Papers

Dear Colleagues,
it is a pleasure to invite you to the Vth International Colloquium on St. Maximus the Confessor organized by The Faculty of Liberal Arts of the Károli Gáspár University of the Protestant Church in Hungary (Budapest) in collaboration with the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory of the University in Belgrade. The conference will take place at the Károli University in Budapest on 3-4 February 2024.

This colloquium will be the fifth in a series and will be focused on the question of the will - both Divine and human - in St. Maximus and in the Church Fathers generally. The topic includes the following subtopics:

Precursors of Maximus' conception of will
Divine and human will in the incarnate Logos
The so-called "gnomic" will
Maximus' definitions of will
Human will in spiritual development
Divine will in creation

The conference will mark the 70th birthday of Professor Torstein Tollefsen and the proceedings of the conference will be published as a Festschrift to Professor Tollefsen. As with previous conferences of the series, the volume will be published in the Subsidia Maximiana series by Brepols.

The colloquium registration fee is 75€, incumbent upon the acceptance of the abstract.
